Start Burp Suite Enterprise Edition for the first time

Now that you've installed Burp Suite Enterprise Edition successfully, let's open it up and adjust the final few settings.

Open Burp Suite Enterprise Edition

  1. From the machine on which you just installed Burp Suite Enterprise Edition, open the browser and go to http://127.0.0.1:8080. The Burp Suite Enterprise Edition login page opens.
  2. Log in with the administrator username and password that you created in the installation wizard. If you have forgotten these credentials, you will unfortunately have to restart the installation process and use the wizard to generate a new administrator user.

Configure an HTTP proxy

Note: This step is only necessary if your organization does not allow you to access the public internet directly. If you can access the internet from the machine on which you installed Burp Suite Enterprise Edition, you can skip straight to activating your license.

In order to activate your license, the Enterprise server must be able to connect to portswigger.net on port 443. If you are not able to connect to the public internet from your machine, you'll need to configure an HTTP proxy.

  1. On the left of the screen, click "Network" to open the network settings.
  2. At the bottom of the page, enable the "HTTP proxy server" setting.
  3. Enter the details of your proxy server, including any authentication credentials if necessary.
  4. Choose whether you want to use the proxy server for connecting to your SMTP server as well. This will be relevant later when you integrate your email server with Burp Suite Enterprise Edition. However, please note that currently this setting is only supported if you use an unauthenticated proxy.
  5. You can now proceed to activating your license by clicking "Licensing" on the left of the screen.

Activate your license

The first time you open Burp Suite Enterprise Edition, you will be prompted to import your license key in order to activate your license.

Note: In order to activate your license, the Enterprise server must be able to connect to portswigger.net on port 443. If you are not able to connect to the public internet from your machine, you'll need to configure an HTTP proxy.

  1. Click the "Import license key" button.
  2. Select the license key that you downloaded earlier. If you can't find it, you can download it again from your account page on portswigger.net.

Configure the web server URL

  1. In the upper-right corner of the screen, select the burger menu and go to "Settings" > "Network" to open the network settings.
  2. Under "Web server URL", enter the URL of your web server, including the protocol and port number. This is the URL that your team will use to access Burp Suite Enterprise Edition. It is also used to generate links back to the web UI, for example, in emails inviting users to activate their account.
  3. Under "Web server port", make sure that the port is the same as the one you selected during the installation. By default, this is 8080.
  4. Leave the other settings as the default for now.
